Over 70 Gardens and Arboreta have registered for the second annual Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand Open Day to be held on Sunday, 28 May 2017.
The inaugural event in 2016 was a fantastic success and Gardens across Australia and New Zealand are busy getting ready for another great day.

ACT Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra We will have a range of fun activities including face painting, a Nature Play mud kitchen, behind the scenes tour (booking essential), Botanic Art Group stall, Friends of the Gardens stall, Friends Photographic Group stall, craft activities, junior rangers program and a colouring-in competition. NSW North Coast Regional Botanic Garden Coffs Harbour

Our Open Day activities spread across the whole weekend! We will be hosting a range of gardening and art workshops, children's activities (including insect hotel making, craft and potting plants) and a plant fair with both native and exotics for sale.

There will be two tours of the early settlers walk finishing with tea and damper, bush songs and a look through a Rusty Iron Machinery Display.

NSW Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens, Bowral Join us for live music in the gardens from 11am-1pm, featuring some of our finest community musicians. Tea, coffee, cake and hot food will be available to purchase. Entry is via a gold coin donation. For more information, click here.

NT George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens We will be launching a new range of walks and talks, as well as our new permanent orienteering course. There will be 'Crate Tree' Climbing for kids, free garden-related Corrugated Iron youth arts performances, large board games, a plant sale plus Territory Proud food and lifestyle stalls. NT Olive Pink Botanic Garden Peter Latz, Central Australia's leading ethnobotanist, and Connie Spencer AM, are launching the Olive Pink Botanic Garden's Landcare Group on Sunday 28th May at 10am. Please come along and find out about restoring degraded areas with native plants, gardening with native plants, how the Garden's new Landcare Group will work and volunteering for our Native Plant Growers Group. There is a free tour of the Garden and morning tea is provided.

NZ Whangarei Quarry Gardens We will be hosting guided garden tours at 10am & 12pm, leaving from the Visitors Centre. You will have the opportunity to mingle with our Manager and gardeners in a garden Q&A, or join phase 2 planting in our new 'Northland Garden' at 2pm. Get involved in conservation of rare local plant species!

NZ Dunedin Botanic Gardens Come and learn the art of raranga with a Harakeke weaving workshop with Lucy Smith, or take part in our Natural Creations workshop, where kids can come and make cards and sculptures out of natural materials from the gardens. QLD Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane Our Volunteer Guides will be offering free guided walks at Mt Coot-tha and Sherwood Arboretum between 10am and 2pm. Tour the Tropical Dome with Curator Dale Arvidsson and discover our threatened plant species. Tour the Millennium Seed Laboratory, Pollen Power and Bush Tucker Tastes activities. "Ask a gardener" and discover "behind the scenes" information on sustainability, water recycling, composting, how to make a hay bale garden and pot up a seedling. QLD Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens

Explore the natural and cultural heritage of the Gold Coast this Open Day. Activities start at 10 am with a community planting, plant propagation workshops, bush food tasting, displays and kids nature trail. At 11 am join us for the launch of the Gold Coast's first ever aboriginal games trail – watch a demonstration of the games and have a go yourself! For those who want to learn more about our indigenous culture, the launch will be followed by guided walks through our bush foods and Story of our Country gardens. For full programme check
QLD Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens Throughout the morning we'll be hosting garden tours and bush food information and tasting sessions. You will gain free entry to the Orchid House and have the opportunity to watch orchid potting demonstrations. Local horticultural societies and community groups will also be present.

QLD Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens We have several activities planned by the Friends of the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens Inc as well as those organised by Council, Curator and staff of the gardens.
Friends will be hosting Herbarium exhibits, guided walks, nursery displays and activities, flower arrangements by our Flowers by Friends group, craft by the Botanic Craft Group, Children's educational, scientific and fun activities and more for this exciting day.
QLD Noosa Botanic Gardens The Autumn Seasonal Guided Walk will be led by trained volunteer guides. Community and garden clubs are invited to join us for our Guided Seasonal Walks. What to bring: hat, sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes.

We will be hosting a range of gardening and botanical art demonstrations alongside guided tours, gentle exercises led by Falun Dafa and an Orchid Q&A with the Mackay & District Orchid Society. The Australian South Sea Islanders Hut will be open to the public with cultural artefacts on display! Lagoons Cafe will have half-price breakfast from 7.30-8.30. activities will begin on the Tropical Sun Lawn from 9am.

Join us at 9.30am this Saturday 27 May for a FREE guided tree walk to mark the Australian-New Zealand Botanic Gardens Open Day. Morning tea will be served after the walk at 11am for a small charge of $5 which supports FOSA's voluntary work in the Arboretum.

VIC Sale Botanic Gardens As part of BGANZ Open Day, the Friends of Sale Botanic Gardens will be conducting two tours of Gippsland's only regional botanic gardens of colonial times.
The first tour, starting at the BBQ Shelter, will commence at 11am and will take about 45 minutes. This will be followed by a Devonshire tea. The second tour, again meeting at the BBQ Shelter, will commence at 1pm and conclude at around 2pm.

VIC National Rhododendron Gardens We will have guest speakers presenting on botanical collections and exploration research. Come and discover our Aboriginal Dreaming Totem Poles, made from Ironbark and hand painted by Indigenous Artists Aunty Di and Uncle Beamo. Bring a picnic and take a stroll through the gardens - be sure to view the beautifully sculptured Correa Bed located next to Gate 6 on Williams Street.
